How can handhelds be used with second graders?

Check out GoKnow's newest book published by ISTE, Palm OS Handheld Computers in the Elementary Classroom: Curriculum and Strategies. It is co-written by a 3rd grade teacher and shows how, with detailed activity guides that range from small, independent lesson plans to full-fledged cross-curricular units.

 

How are handhelds being utilized in High School?

Many students use their handhelds for word-processing, note-taking and reading eBooks. Graphing calculators (powerOne Graph) and probeware (Pasco) are also popular in the classroom.

 

How young is too young for handhelds in K-12?

We have seen kindergartners use handhelds. They certainly don’t use them every day. But, every once in a while there might be a little center monitored by an adult, or the teacher uses the handheld and students contribute to the eBook, K-W-L chart and so on. Generally speaking, 3rd grade through 12th grade are exceptional grades for infusing handhelds.
